Mainlanders do not have to cross the bridge for a night of live music. The Lounge at Ixora Hotel in Bandar Perai Jaya, on Level G of the hotel, has live music every Friday and Saturday from 8pm to 11pm, making it one of the few regular hotel-lounge music nights in Seberang Perai.
The Lounge is open daily from noon until 11pm, and stays open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, so you can arrive for the band and linger afterwards. There is also an after-work happy hour menu, which makes it a handy stop for people working in the Perai industrial area and around Seberang Jaya.
Expect a relaxed, easy-going crowd – colleagues celebrating the end of the week, small groups of friends and hotel guests. It is a good choice if you want somewhere comfortable, with parking, close to Butterworth, Perai and Seberang Jaya, without the late-night drive back from George Town.
The hotel's past event listings show it has long run weekend band nights, but the line-up changes, so it is worth calling ahead on +60 4 382 8888 (ext 1403 for table reservations) to check who is playing and to book a table on busy nights. For dinner, the hotel's The Straits Cafe is on site, or head to the Seberang Jaya and Perai food streets nearby before the music starts.
