Down at Penang's southern tip, Nibong Tebal's Sunday pasar malam (夜市) is one of the longest street markets in Seberang Perai Selatan. It runs along Jalan Sungai Daun in Taman Nibong Tebal Jaya, and travel guides describe it as exceptionally long – bring comfortable shoes.
The food is the reason to make the trip. Sources mention kueh teow soup, nasi lemak, assam laksa and kuih sayur, plus fried noodles, grilled skewers, kuih and cold drinks. My Weekend Plan's 2026 list sums it up as off the tourist trail, with a small-town atmosphere and reasonable prices. Zafigo notes that because many customers are Chinese, some food may not be halal-certified – Muslim visitors should check individual stalls.
Timing: My Weekend Plan (July 2026) gives about 4:30pm to 10pm, while Zafigo and Travels With Sun (2024) say 7pm to 10pm. Arriving around 6:30pm–7pm should catch the market at full strength.
Who it's for: locals from Nibong Tebal, Sungai Bakap and Parit Buntar, and anyone combining an evening firefly trip on Sungai Krian with dinner. From the island, allow time for the drive via the Second Bridge. Parking can be tricky at peak time.
