Batu Ferringhi Night Market (Nightly)

Unlike the rotating neighbourhood pasar malam, the Batu Ferringhi night market opens every night of the week. Its main section lines the coastal road between the Shangri-La Golden Sands and Parkroyal resorts, so most visitors simply walk over from their beach hotel after dinner.

This is Penang's most tourist-oriented market. Stalls sell souvenirs, clothes, bags, shoes, sunglasses, jewellery, toys, artwork and electronics, with quality ranging from locally made pieces to mass-produced items – browse with modest expectations and bargain politely. For food, the Long Beach food court has Malaysian hawker dishes and international options: order at the stall, note your table number, and pay when the food arrives. OnPenang notes that cash and e-wallets are accepted but cards generally are not.

Getting there: Rapid Penang buses 101 and 102 run along the coast, or take a Grab – but expect heavy traffic, especially at weekends.
