Lorong Kulit is Penang's best-known flea market, or pasar karat – the place to dig for vintage records, secondhand books, old electrical items, brassware and antiques. Penang Travel Tips places it on open ground between the entrance to the City Stadium and the Rapid Penang bus depot, and notes it later shifted to a car park a few hundred metres away.
What to expect: piles of secondhand goods laid out on tables and tarps, a mix of genuine collectables and pure junk, and plenty of bargaining. As Penang Travel Tips puts it, you may have to plough through mountains of rubble to find the gem – which is exactly the appeal for collectors and curious browsers.
Schedule: our sources do not fully agree, and none is recent. Time Out lists Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 2pm, and says to arrive by 9am because most traders pack up by noon. Penang Freesheet lists weekends, 6am to 1pm. Penang Travel Tips described it as operating daily. We list it as a weekend-morning market and recommend going early on a Saturday or Sunday; please treat the hours as unconfirmed.
