Sungai Ara's Friday pasar malam (夜市) is the go-to weekly market for the big residential belt between Relau, Sungai Ara and Bayan Lepas. My Weekend Plan's 2026 round-up of Penang night markets lists it in Kampung Sungai Ara, running from around 6pm until 11pm.
It is a community market first: expect hawker snacks, cut fruit and fresh produce alongside household goods, and prices pitched at local families rather than tourists. That makes it a practical stop for a cheap dinner and the weekend's groceries in one trip.
Tips: arrive before the peak crowds (roughly 7pm–8pm) if you want an easy walk around, and bring cash or an e-wallet. Parking is on nearby roads, so give yourself a few extra minutes.
A note on schedules: the JomPasarMalam directory also lists Sungai Ara on Friday (Jumaat). Separately, Penang Travel Tips mentions that Jalan Mahkamah near Bayan Lepas is closed every Saturday for a night market – that appears to be a different market, and we have not been able to confirm its current status.
