The Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) is Penang's largest mass-participation sporting event, and the 2026 edition takes place on Sunday 13 December. The start and finish are at Aspen Vision City in Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, on the mainland side of the state.
Three main categories are on offer: the full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km) and the IHH PBIM 10km run, plus a 10km Junior category and limited elite slots for the full and half marathons. The full marathon flags off at 1.30am with a seven-hour cut-off, the half marathon at 3am, and the 10km at 6.30am. Finisher medals and tees go only to runners who complete within the qualifying times.
According to The Star (8 October 2026), about 25,000 runners had registered, and the organisers briefly reopened a limited number of full-marathon slots until 11 October; the half marathon and 10km had already closed. If you did not register, this is one to watch and cheer from the sidelines rather than enter.
Race kit collection runs over three sessions: Klippa Shopping Centre (IKEA Batu Kawan) on 27–29 November, Aspen House in George Town on 4–6 December, and Aspen Vision City on 10–12 December (9am–2pm on the final day). Bring your confirmation and ID, and avoid the last day if you can – it is usually the busiest.
With such early flag-off times, sort out your transport and sleep the day before. Island-based runners may find it easier to stay near Batu Kawan on Saturday night.
