Pesta Pulau Pinang, the state's much-loved year-end carnival, returns for its 60th edition from 1 to 31 December 2026, but in a brand-new home. With the old Tapak Pesta in Sungai Nibong handed over for the Mutiara Line LRT station and depot, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that this year's month-long pesta will be held at Padang Menora in Kubang Menerong, Tasek Gelugor, on land belonging to PERDA. The state kept the "Pesta Pulau Pinang" name because of the brand it has built since 1966.
Organisers have not yet released the full programme, but past editions have mixed classic fun-fair rides and carnival games with nightly stage performances, rows of food stalls, lifestyle and household goods booths, and showcases by state agencies and local cultural groups. The Chief Minister acknowledged that the new site is smaller than Sungai Nibong but said it is suitable for the event.
Who is it for? Families with kids on the year-end school holidays, mainland residents in Kepala Batas, Bertam and Butterworth who now have the pesta much closer to home, and nostalgic Penangites who grew up with "pi pesta" every December. Islanders should budget extra travel time.
Opening hours, admission and ride prices were still to be announced when we checked. We will update this page once the state releases details.
