If you would rather see in the new year with a cocktail and a jazz trio than a thumping sound system, the Eastern & Oriental Hotel's Farquhar's Bar is hosting a Countdown Party Jazz Night on Thursday, 31 December 2026, from 9pm to 12:30am.
Music comes from De Leon Jazz Experience featuring vocalist Claudia, who also play the hotel's regular jazz brunches. Farquhar's itself is a handsome vintage bar in the E&O's Heritage Wing – an oak-and-brass long bar, antique fittings, leather sofas and views towards the waterfront – which makes it one of the more atmospheric places in George Town to count down to midnight.
Entry is RM128 nett per person and includes one glass of bubbly. Make it a full evening with the E&O's New Year's Eve dinners elsewhere in the hotel, or eat along Lebuh Farquhar, Lebuh Chulia or at the Esplanade before strolling over. Traffic in the heritage core is heavy after midnight, so pre-book your ride or plan to walk.
