UMI UMI Penang turns dinner into a stage show. Its current production, The Chronicle of Penang, is a 90-minute live performance paired with a seven-course menu, told over nine chapters inspired by Penang's 200-year story. The venue is at The Garage on Jalan Penang in central George Town, and PenangToday's events calendar lists the immersive show running through to 30 November 2026.
The menu blends Penang heritage with East–West flavours; dishes named by the venue include a cigar chicken roll, Teochew-style steamed grouper and chawanmushi with bird's nest. Shows run Wednesday to Friday from 7pm to 9pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 12pm–2pm and 6pm–8pm, so weekend lunch is an option for families.
Pricing depends on the seat category. Premium seats are RM338 per adult and RM238 per child aged 3 to 11; Elite seats are RM378 and RM278; VIP seats are RM438 and RM308. Bookings are made online through the venue's booking site. The dress code is smart casual, and the venue recommends comfortable footwear.
Who is it for? Visitors who want a crash course in Penang history with dinner, couples marking a birthday or anniversary, and families with school-age kids. Book a few days ahead for weekend slots, tell the team about any food allergies in advance, and arrive a little early so you are seated before the first chapter starts.
