Penang's longest-running taste of Bavaria returns: the Malaysian-German Society (MGS) hosts Oktoberfest 2026 at its clubhouse at 250B Jalan Air Itam on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, from 7pm. Listed on Penang Global Tourism's calendar as the German Cultural Festival Penang 2026, it is a proper "Volksfest" (people's festival) in a traditional Bavarian-style tent, which the organisers bill as the only one of its kind in northern Malaysia.
Expect German beer, hearty Bavarian food, games and dancing, with live music from Die Frankenräuber, a band flown in from Bavaria. Food and drinks are paid for separately from the entry ticket.
Tickets are day-specific and cannot be switched between nights. Advance tickets were sold through Ticket2U at RM30 in August and RM40 in September–October; from 30 October the price is RM50. Children under 16 get in free with a parent or guardian, while anyone buying alcohol must be 21 or older and carry photo ID. Bags may be checked at the entrance.
Who is it for? Beer lovers, expats, groups of friends and families who fancy a sausage-and-pretzel night out. Go early on Saturday for a good table, wear something comfortable (dirndl and lederhosen welcome) and arrange a ride home.
