If you have an HSBC Malaysia credit or debit card, The Light Hotel Penang on the mainland will upgrade you for free. According to HSBC's offers portal, cardholders get a complimentary upgrade to the next room category, worth up to RM810, when they pay with their HSBC or HSBC Amanah card.
The offer runs for a full year, from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027, so it covers the year-end school holidays, Chinese New Year 2027 and the mid-year break. It suits a mainland staycation, a family wedding stay in Seberang Jaya, or simply a quieter base than the island when you visit Penang.
You book directly with the hotel, either on WhatsApp at +60 17 471 2472 or as a walk-in. Upgrades depend on room availability, so the earlier you book, the better your chances. The offer cannot be used with other promotions or for group bookings of nine rooms or more. Blackout dates may also apply.
Tips: Mention the HSBC offer when you make the booking, not at check-in, and ask the hotel to note it on your reservation. The upgrade cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash. Applicable taxes may still be charged. This page covers only the upgrade, so confirm your room rate, breakfast and parking with the hotel directly.
