Gurney Plaza is marking its 25th anniversary year with a pastel, photo-friendly Deepavali display called “Deepavali in Splendour”. The key visual shows a jewel-toned peacock fanning its tail on a kolam-patterned platform, surrounded by glowing lotus lamps and floral arches – very Instagram, very Gurney. The mall posted the campaign on 14 October 2026, and the activity programme runs at the Centre Atrium through early November.
The cultural line-up includes a Bharatanatyam dance performance by Temple of Fine Art on Saturday 31 October at 12pm, a sand-art rangoli workshop on Sunday 1 November from 2pm to 6pm, and henna painting on 31 October and 8–9 November from 2pm to 6pm. Note the henna is listed as a redemption, so check at the information counter what you need to qualify. Equator College also ran a Terra & Tone workshop on 24–25 October.
Shoppers who are CapitaPlus members can redeem festive goodies at the Information Counter with same-day receipts: an RM10 Mercato voucher (spend RM250, from 1 October), a Shantea Guava Lime Breeze drink (spend RM300, from 15 October), exclusive Deepavali packets (spend RM200, from 22 October) and a The Body Shop travel-size shower gel set (spend RM500, from 29 October). All while stocks last, one redemption per shopper unless stated, maximum two combined receipts.
It is a lovely stop for families, tourists staying along Gurney Drive and anyone wanting festive photos without the crowds of Little India. Come for the noon dance on 31 October, then walk across to Gurney Paragon or the Gurney Drive seafront. Parking fills up fast on weekends, so arrive before lunch or take a Rapid Penang bus heading along Gurney Drive.
