Design Village, the outlet mall in Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, runs a weekend workshop series called DV Fun Club, and from October it moved into a cooler, air-conditioned space at Bunkuya (Lot G.138, Purple Zone). Sessions run every Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to 7pm, so parents can shop the outlets while the kids get creative – or join in themselves, as the mall pitches it to adults too.
November’s line-up is especially varied: a Steampunk Robot Creation to kick off on 1 November, a DIY Wooden Music Box and DIY Sofa Tray Table on 7–8 November, Tote Bag Painting and a Glow In Colour Lamp on 14–15 November, Seaglass Frame Art and a Succulent Terrarium on 21–22 November, and Pottery Clay and “My Little Fridge” to close the month on 28–29 November. If you are reading this before the weekend, the Halloween Water Beads session on 31 October is a quick, easy one for little ones.
Pricing follows a difficulty rating: RM10 for low, RM15 for medium and RM20 for high-level workshops. For level 2 and 3 workshops, children below nine may need to be accompanied by an adult. Bookings are made online, slots are limited, sessions are non-refundable (but transferable) and there is strictly no late arrival.
Make an afternoon of it: shop the outlets from 11am, grab an early dinner, then drop into the 5pm workshop. Design Village is near the Second Penang Bridge’s mainland landing and IKEA Batu Kawan. Until stocks last, shoppers spending RM300 and above in a single receipt can also redeem an exclusive peacock bowl for Deepavali (from 23 October).
