Most Penangites know ZUS Coffee for its quick takeaway outlets, but the brand's ZUS Signature Coffee concept is a different animal. Its first Penang outlet has opened at Lucerne Residence in Bayan Lepas, and it is designed for lingering rather than a quick takeaway, with a more upscale feel and sleek black-and-white interiors.
The coffee programme centres on single-origin espresso (SOE) using Brazil and Ethiopia beans, served in straightforward classics such as espresso, Americano and latte. If you prefer something richer, the SOE Modern line includes a Rocher Latte, a Caffè Mocha and an Iced Shaken Double SOE. There is food to go with it as well, with seasonal pastries such as a Coffee Pain Suisse and a Strawberry Danish.
A calmer, sit-down ZUS in Bayan Lepas should appeal to remote workers, meetings over coffee and weekend brunch crowds who want a ZUS drink without the queue-and-go vibe.
