Air Itam is getting a new cinema brand. Legend Cinema, a Cambodian chain founded in 2011 that draws about 200,000 moviegoers a month back home, has chosen Penang for its first Malaysian outlet, with halls planned at Sunshine Mall in Air Itam by December 2026.
The plan was sealed through a memorandum of understanding between Legend Cinema Co Ltd and Crimson Omega Sdn Bhd, the company developing and managing the space, as reported by Malay Mail in late September 2026. Legend's chief operating officer said Penang was chosen because it is a good city and well known among Cambodians, while Crimson Omega's project director called the deal an important milestone for the group.
So far the number of halls, screen formats, seat types and ticket prices have not been announced, and neither has an exact opening date. We will update this page once the operator confirms details. For Air Itam, Farlim and Paya Terubong residents, a cinema close to home would save a trip to Gurney or Queensbay for new releases.
Cambodian officials at the signing said they hoped the move would help promote Cambodian brands abroad. Air Itam is also home to Kek Lok Si Temple and the Penang Hill lower station, so a future movie night could easily be paired with a day of sightseeing. Check back closer to December for the confirmed opening date.
Not yet confirmed by the organiser: exact opening date, number of halls and formats, ticket prices, operating hours, full mall address. We'll update this page when details are published.
