On 11 November, a public ceremony at the Anti-War Memorial Monument beside the Air Itam traffic circle remembers those who died during the war years. The 2026 ceremony (槟榔屿华侨抗战殉职机工暨罹难同胞纪念碑公祭) takes place on Wednesday 11 November at 11.11am, as listed on the Penang Global Tourism events calendar.
The ceremony honours overseas Chinese who lost their lives in wartime resistance efforts – including the mechanics (机工) who served – together with civilian compatriots who perished. It is a commemorative occasion, and it is open to the public.
For students and anyone interested in Penang's wartime history, attending is a meaningful way to understand how the community remembers this period. It also pairs well with a visit to Air Itam's other heritage landmarks afterwards.
Dress modestly and keep a respectful silence during the proceedings. Because the memorial sits next to a busy roundabout, take care crossing the road and arrive a little early to find a spot – parking around Air Itam town is tight on weekdays. Organiser details were not stated on the listing, so contact Penang Global Tourism (+604 264 3456) if you would like to confirm arrangements.
