Straits Quay in Tanjung Tokong is one of Penang's go-to spots for welcoming the New Year, and its Countdown 2027 is set for Thursday 31 December 2026. According to the mall's listing on the Malaysia Shopping Malls Association calendar, the marina will be decked out with lights and host live entertainment, music, giveaways and photo opportunities in the lead-up to midnight, finishing with a big fireworks display over the water.
The waterfront setting is the main draw: you can grab dinner at one of the marina restaurants, then find a spot along the boardwalk for the fireworks. Previous countdowns have been popular with families and groups of friends, so expect big crowds.
Who is it for? Anyone wanting an open-air NYE party on the island's north coast without heading into the George Town crush. If you have small children, an early dinner and a spot near the exits makes the post-midnight exit easier.

Straits Quay, 3F-G-1, Straits Quay, Jalan Seri Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Tokong, 10470 Pulau Pinang. Grab is easiest; roads around Seri Tanjung Pinang are congested after midnight. Rapid Penang buses toward Tanjung Bungah stop nearby. Open in Google Maps or open in Waze.
